I was fortunate enough to be @lilly's guest a the box suite for #NBAAllStar this year in #Chicago. As I was walking to the suite, an employee pushing a desert-cart, saw me and said "Wow I love your outfit!", she then immediately changed her expression and somberly said "Oh I'm sorry I shouldn't be talking to you, I'm really sorry for bothering you".

I was caught off guard, I had never seen someone go from so casual to instant remorse. I don't know the rules of the arena, but I'm more than happy to talk to people, and the last thing a person should apologize for is throwing a compliment my way. I told her it was okay, and showed her the patterns on my jacket up close, it's eaten apple cores and some leaves.

There's always some form of hierarchy lurking in the shadows. This employee hinted others have been offended by the mere thought that "help" disturb them. I see this bullshit in #Hollywood. Having friends that work on sets, some celebrities demand that no one look at them, let alone talk to them. My father drove a cab for 30 years, the last thing I could stomach is anyone being disrespectful to people working in areas of service. The ugliness we extend to others is usually a reflection of the ugliness inside. The need to have status over others is dangerous, unsustainable, and just plain whack. People are people, and basic decency doesn't cost much to share.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice. I'm lucky I get to do cool things, but that doesn't make me better than others. For the remainder of our lives we'll always be between those who have more, and those who have less. We can waste our time envying those who have more, or focus on adding more value to those who have less. We can do both, but only one has a long term value.

Much love to @thesandylion for getting me fly for the game so last minute, and @hayleyelsaesser the dope outfit. My shirt is available on my humblethepoet.com, and big ups to @niketoronto for the fly Compton Kendrick Cortez. #BLESS
